I recently touched on the state of this blog and what the internet world is like currently.
I wrote:
"This blog is really in a weak state of existence. I've focused my time on mountain bike topics elsewhere. Mountain Bike Radio
has taken on a life of it's own and I'm trying to build it's social
media presence to ensure that it reaches the full mountain biking
community. With the increased amount of information flying around daily
and the decreased amount of time we all spent on each piece of that
information, it becomes exponentially important to stay part of the
conversation.
While blogs continue to lose out to quicker hits like Facebook, Twitter,
Google+, Pinterest, etc., they still remain relevant as a way to share
information, experiences, and be part of the conversation. We cozy up to
our computers on a rainy Saturday morning with our fancy organic,
gluten free lattes to read stories and experiences on blogs the same way
our parents and grandparents did with their newspapers and Folgers.
Whether blogs become irrelevant like newspapers and Folgers, will be
determined by our kids.
"
I noted that "it becomes exponentially important to stay part of the conversation." This is speaking of Mountain Bike Radio. I don't personally have to be part of any conversation, except the one with my 5-month-old son. However, with a brand such as MBR, it's essential to be part of the conversation for several reasons. The most important being to let people know what new show/interview is out there. With 60+ shows already, it can get overwhelming. But, if MBR stays part of the conversation, people can easily keep up to at least know that they should check the site if they are looking to hear some mountain bike talk. Secondarily, it is important to the brand, the business, and the future of MBR, as well as everyone involved.
I just saw something posted by Bike Magazine about the internet world that was related to the above and it was spot on. Check it out HERE. Here's an excerpt that explains it all:
"Ten years ago, Amelia Earhart’s discovery would have been news fodder
for weeks. Today, it’s a blip. It goes in one ear, gets muddled before
it hits the grey matter and—poof—it’s gone. It’s hard to stay tuned or
even slightly aware when Snooki has an urinary-tract infection due to butt sex, Kim Kardashian is getting a divorce, you can actually watch Justin Bieber barfing at a concert in Arizona or, hell, your second cousin just tweeted that she really likes that Fifty Shades of Grey book."
It makes me wonder how long the Red Bull Stratos story will circulate? Probably as long as all the different websites and facebook pages photoshop in their product to him jumping and trying to make it go viral. Viral. hmm..wonder if Snooki knows what that means.
On a separate note: I pulled out my stitches this morning and I have a new bike day coming at the end of this week. I can smell 2013 already. What's on tap for 2013 you may ask? Trans Sylvania Epic Stage Race. That's one that I have in the books for right now. Marathon nationals, Breck 68, Vapor Trail...the rest will fill in soon enough.
